Dignity, Income, and Hope for Women in São Tomé and Príncipe

The Heriquicia Project is an initiative by the NGO Resgate Global in São Tomé and Príncipe—one that Hope to the Nations is delighted and privileged to support.

The project was born with a purpose that goes far beyond teaching a trade. Its goal is to provide women with the opportunity to generate their own income, help support their families, and rediscover their dignity, worth, and capabilities.

Many of these women live in highly vulnerable situations, lacking resources and having few opportunities to develop a profession. A lack of prospects can lead to isolation and loneliness, and in some cases, to alcohol consumption as a way to cope with reality and pain.

We believe that when a woman is given an opportunity, she receives more than just a source of income—she gains the tools to rebuild her life story.

Guided by Pastor Ana Souza, the selected women will undergo sewing training, where they will have the chance to learn and develop skills that can be turned into work and income generation. Sewing machines have already been acquired through a donation made in Africa, allowing this dream to begin taking shape.

The aim of the Heriquicia Project is to establish a sewing workshop—creating a safe environment for work, learning, and fellowship—where these women can produce goods, grow professionally, and achieve greater financial independence.

We want to see them step out of isolation and find a community where they are welcomed, valued, and encouraged. We want each of them to look at the work of their own hands and recognize:

“I am capable. I have worth. I can help transform my family’s reality.”

It is not just about providing resources; it is about creating opportunities, restoring dignity, and building paths toward a different future.

When a woman is empowered, the impact does not stop with her. It reaches her children, strengthens her family, and can transform an entire community. Hope to the Nations believes in this mission and, therefore, works alongside the NGO Resgate Global, supporting the Heriquicia Project and helping more women in São Tomé and Príncipe find opportunity, work, fellowship, dignity, and hope.
